Consider the Cost and Time Necessary for Individual Plants

Avoid high-maintenance foliage. If you don’ t have a lot of time or money to maintain plants, steer clear of those that require a lot of both, such as roses. Plants such as this require a lot of attention to maintain, and a lot of costly fertilizers, pesticides, etc. to keep healthy and looking good. Before buying a plant at your local nursery (or getting cuttings/root divisions from friends), ask or research it to see how “type A” you have to be to keep it thriving and looking good.
