Grow Your Own Seeds
You’d be surprised how many plants you can do this with. For many years now we’ve been setting aside a small portion of each crop we grow for use as seeds. Select the healthiest plant or vegetable you can and mark it with a string. When it comes time for harvesting it, remove the seeds, dry them and store them in a cool, dry place. Next year, voila! Free seeds. This works particularly well for vegetables such as squash, pumpkins, cucumbers and tomatoes. You can also coax vegetables such as radishes to develop seeds by leaving them to grow long past the point where they’ve gone by.
