Eliminate “Ghost Loads”

Think your appliances are not sucking any power when they are turned off? Not necessarily so.

Many appliances — televisions are notorious for this — have built into them what are known as “ghost loads.” Ghost loads are small parts of the appliances that constantly use a little electricity, even when the appliance is shut off. One way to totally kill ghost loads is to unplug appliances when they are not being used. One great way to handle this is to use an extension cord that allows you to shut off all appliances with a simple switch.
