Recipe – Cheesy Dog Treats

Dogs and cheese? Oh yeah, these are a real hit with the canine crowd.

1 cup boiling water
1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup margarine
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
3/4 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 tsp. chicken OR beef bouillon granules
2 1/2 – 3 cups all-purpose OR whole wheat flour

In a large bowl, combine the boiling water, oats and margarine and allow to set for several minutes. Add the cheese, cornmeal, milk, egg, sugar and bullion and stir to combine. Add in the flour a little at a time, stirring after each addition, until all is combined into a dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly-floured surface and roll it out to 1/2″ thickness (you may need to add a little more flour to it to make it less sticky). Cut out your favorite cookie shapes, then bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet at 325 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
