Using Newspapers In The Garden?

We’ve had much success using this tip over the years in the FrugalWorld gardens. One source of cheap mulch to control weeds in your garden is in the form of newspapers. Just put down several layers of newspaper around your plants and layer a little mulch or dirt atop it (for aesthetics as much as to hold it down). Try to avoid newspaper with colored inks as much as possible. Not only will the newspaper control weeds and retain moisture, it’ll also slowly break down and become soil, resulting in a much better solution than the expensive landscaping plastic you can buy.
