Food Substitutions

You’re baking along and discover you’re out of something. Don’t immediately run to the store.

Once you get to the grocery story, you’ll immediately find a need for this, that, a cart full. It’s much easier (and ultimately cheaper) to use what you have on-hand as a substitute for what the recipe calls for. For example, need allspice? Try combining equal parts of cinnamon and cloves. Need a cup of brown sugar? Try substituting a cup of regular white sugar to which a teaspoon of molasses has been added.
