Make Your Own Tub Crayons

You can either grate your own bars of soap for this project, or use soap flakes.

Ingredients:

5 cups soap flakes or grated cheap (i.e. Ivory) soap

¼ cup plus 1 tablespoon hot water

food coloring

Place soap flakes/grated soap into a bowl and slowly add the hot water, stirring constantly. Separate the mix into several small bowls, and add the food coloring to each. Do this slowly, drop by drop, until the mixture starts to thicken into a paste. Press the into molds – something like ice cube trays is fine, or you can experiment with anything that the soap can set up in. Allow to harden in a dry place for up to a week, then pop out of the molds. The resulting crayons should be allowed to set up for an additional few more days before use.
