Take stock of what you own, and keep an eye open at your next yard sale spree.
Many of the parts used in electronics components such as stereo systems are very similar, and if you find a cheap model at a yard sale that is nearly identical to yours, you should consider picking it up to use for spare parts. These parts could include springs, rubber belts, control knobs and even small speakers. Something as simple as a broken spring could put your CD player out of commission, but if you have a replacement part, you’ll save yourself the cost of a repair or an expensive replacement.
