Postage Scale Alternative
You don’t need an expensive postage scale to see if a letter is over one ounce with this nifty trick.
It’s use is limited, but this DIY postage scale is so cool you’ll have to assemble one just to amaze your friends and family. What you’ll need:
A 12-inch ruler
A pencil
Five quarters
Lay the ruler on the pencil, placing the pencil perpendicular to it at the 6 inch mark. Place the quarters on one end of the ruler, and an envelope you’re getting ready to mail on the other end of the ruler. Since the five quarters together weigh exactly one ounce, if the envelope is able to lift them off the table, then the envelope must weigh more than an ounce, and you’ll need more postage than a simple First Class stamp to mail it.
