Shred to Thwart ID Theft
Spending a little money for a paper shredder can save you money and hassle down the road.
One popular way for criminals to get your personal information is to go through your trash. Whether it’s on your curb, in a building dumpster, on it’s way to or actually in a landfill, your personal information, left intact, is at risk amongst your banana peels and eggs shells (which you should be composting anyhow, but that’s another tip).
To protect against this method of identity theft, break down and invest in a simple and inexpensive paper shredder. Any piece of paper or mail with an account number – be it credit card, bank, etc. – or your social security number should be relegated to the shredder.
An added bonus? You’ll never run out of packing materials for mailing ever again.
