Keep Your Eyes and Ears Open to Car Problems

Your senses are the first line of defense when it comes to automotive problems. We cover what you should be sniffing for when it comes to car troubles in another post (http://www.frugalworld.com/2007/06/22/sniff-out-car-engine-troubles/), but that’s not the only sense you should tune into your car. You ears should be always on alert for any new whistling, clanging or other not-quite-right sound. These are generally the first indication that something is amiss.

Your eyes can also come in quite handy when it comes to isolating problems and taking care of them before they become really expensive. Once a week do a quick visual inspection of your vehicle, looking for any leaks, faulty lights or low tires that could indicate a leak. While you’re driving keep an eye open for steam or black smoke, both of which can signal the start of real potential problems with either the radiator or engine.
