Is premium-grade gas = the best gas an urban myth?OK, urban myth might be pushing it a bit, but the truth is that your car or truck will probably run just fine on the lowest grade gas recommended for it. First, check your owners’ manual to see what brands of gas they recommend. The lowest grade gas they list, fill your vehicle with that.

Then, observe. If your vehicle runs and sounds great, you’ve got your gas type. If you notice any performance problems or knocking, try the next grade up and see how it runs. You’re probably not doing your vehicle any favors by going with a more expensive grade of gas if it runs well at lower grades, and with some vehicles, you might actually do damage by going with a higher grade.
