Beef Jerky Recipe

Skip out on the preservatives and the price by making your own beef jerky. The key here is low heat for an extended period of time.

Ingredients:

1 lb. round or flank steak
2 tablespoons liquid smoke
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon pepper
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce

Directions:

Thinly slice the meat across the grain. Combine the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and add the sliced meat. Allow to marinade overnight in the refrigerator.

Drain the meat well on paper towels, then place the slices on a rack and cook in the oven at 140 degrees for three hours. Alternately, you can use a food dehydrator, which will take about eight hours. Store jerky in a jar in the refrigerator.
