Bolognese Sauce

Serve this hearty spaghetti sauce over your favorite pasta and top with Parmesan cheese.

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage, remove from casing
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 large clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 can (28 oz) diced, peeled tomato
  • 2 cans (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine

Brown off the beef and sausage in a skillet, adding the onion, carrot and celery about halfway through the cooking. Drain well, then add it and the rest of the ingredients to a crockpot. Cook on low for 5-7 hours. Serves 8.
