Making Your Own Cold Frame

A cold frame can help extend your growing season considerably.Old windows make cheap and highly effective cold frames, a great boon to any gardener, but particularly those in northern climates. These cold frames can be as elaborate as constructed wooden structures that use hinges on the windows (so that you can easily raise and lower them), to very simple pits where the sides are built up with bricks or stones and the windows are simply then set atop. Do a search for “build cold frame” in your favorite search engine to find a wide range of plans covering an equally wide range of budgets.
